Nature Based Solutions in Japan

Underwood & Associates, in partnership with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and the Ecosystem Research Institute of Japan, invited us to document a groundbreaking journey to Japan centered around Nature-Based Solutions.

We followed their team across rural watersheds to capture the introduction of regenerative stream restoration practices to local communities and policymakers—many witnessing this approach for the first time. The story continued in Tokyo, where we filmed critical conversations with national leaders, laying the groundwork for future ecological projects across the country.

Through film and photography, we aimed to showcase a pivotal cultural and scientific exchange with the potential to reshape Japan’s relationship with its rivers and coasts.
