Wildfire Mitigation
This introductory story for the Red Feather Lakes Area Wildfire Defense Project sets the stage for a multi-year effort to help communities become more resilient to wildfire. Funded through a USDA Community Wildfire Defense Grant and co-managed by the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed and Larimer County Office of Emergency Management, the project focuses on preparing landscapes, homes, and residents for the realities of living in a fire-prone environment. Guided by four Community Wildfire Protection Plans, the initiative takes a community-specific approach to reducing risk and strengthening preparedness. Rather than eliminating fire from the landscape, the project aims to build communities that can withstand, recover from, and coexist with wildfire for generations to come.
